Hi I am Rahul Sarawgi from Jaipur. I have just completed my graduate degree in Commerce from Mumbai University. I am currently pursuing my MBA from SIMS, Pune.
I would like to share the experience of my first business activity which was given to us by Professor Mr. Manohar Kamath. This full day activity was to look for a job for ourselves for a single day from which we could earn a minimum of Rs. 150 and there were no expenses allowed for the day.
I and my partner for this activity Ms. Priyanka Dave started working on this at 1000 hrs from SIMS campus. First we took a lift from a gentleman from outside the campus till E-Square. Then after walking for around 500 mtrs we took another lift till the Camp area. We got down in front of the SGS Shopping Centre and our first target in this job hunt was a small coffee house. We were very unlucky as some of our other batch mates had already got a job there. Our second target was the SGS Mall. We spoke to the manager of Pizza Hut, Mc Donalds, Westside and other stores like Nike, Adidas, Provogue etc but we finally got a job at the Spykar Jeans store. There we were able to convince the manager Mr. Nitin for a days job for a pay of Rs 150 each. After a brief explaination about the store at around 1230 hrs we were told to assist the other sales executives in the Stock Taking activity in which we were made to count each and every piece of inventory present in th store. Then we were given a lunch break of 40 min but as per the instructions we were not allowed to spend so we both were just sitting in the cafeteria idle. We resumed our work at 1340 hrs and the rest of the day just passed in attending customers and helping them with their purchasing. As per the schedule we then left the store at 1730 hrs to join our other batch mates at SGS cafereria where we all had a quick discussion on our job profile and how much did each one of us had earned.
The activity was very much interesting and we learned a lot of new things like the process of Stock Taking, understanding the customer requirement, etc.
